During the time that school is closed, Key Stage 1 staff will be providing you with a selection of Home Learning activities. All children received a Home Learning pack and should be working on this regularly. Feel free to do the activities in any order and we would really like you to send us photos of activities you are doing at home using Class Dojo. Key Stage 1 parents have access to Class Dojo.

Remember, you can also find more ideas on the Key Stage 1 Home Learning page.

Key Stage 1 Transition Week Beginning Monday 6th July

This year Transition Week is going to be a bit different but we will still make it special. This week you will be introduced to your new teacher so please keep a look out on Class Dojo. As you will not be able to see your teacher in person, we have created a menu of activities that you will be able to complete and share with your new teacher. It would be helpful for your new teacher if you could make a video and introduce yourself. This will help your new teacher get to know you and find about what you like. Here is the menu and yu can also download the menu if you want.

You can download the menu by using the link below:

Wednesday 15th July

This is going to be a very sad post as it's my last one of the school year. We have had 67 of our school days at home but we didn't let it spoil our learning; we adjusted to a new way of learning. We would like to say a huge thank you to all of our incredible families for engaging with us and supporting your child with the home learning. We wish you all a peaceful Eid and a relaxing holiday together, you deserve a rest!

Thank you, and take care.

Mrs Hirst & Mr Lorgat

TTRS results.....Year 1 did it again with a score of 12,748.  Well done to everyone in Key Stage 1 who took part in  our weekly tournaments. You are all amazing!

Tuesday 14th July

Another great day; thank you Key Stage 1. Mrs Hirst is feeling very sad about the year ending this way so some of the children in Year 1 have drawn pictures to cheer her up. It worked!

Monday 13th July

Today was our final Monday. The videos which we are receiving are amazing! I think we have some parents who need to be filming professionally! Film is a fantastic way of sharing your home learning as being able to present and communicate with an audience is just as important as reading and writing. It has been lovely to see the fun you have been having.

Friday 10th July

Well our final full week has come to an end, and what a week it has been! Looking at your work and videos reminds us of how far you have come this academic year. We are so proud of you all! We are looking forward to our final three days next week.

TTRS Tournament.

Year 1 have broken their own record again with a score of 27,040! How is that even possible you may be asking. Well it's thanks to Shaheem, Inaaya S., Zara, Abdullah, Hamzah, Talhah P., Yahyaa, Hasan A., Eesa, Safiyyah, Zakariya, Aamina, Maryam, Fatimah, Zaynab, Aliza, Aroush and Eiliyah Zainab for taking part! Well done and thank you. Year 2 also got a good score, 4038. Thank you to Yusuf P., Muhammad A., Mohammed M., Afeefah, Adam, Sara, Fatimah, Raees, Muhammad K., Anas, Talha, Eesa and Hajra for taking part.

Thursday 9th July

There have been so many videos created today, thank you for sharing them with us. Mrs Hirst is learning lots of things about the Year 1 children that she didn't know and she has been their teacher for a year! Today is our last Thursday of this academic year and tomorrow is our last Friday. Let's make tomorrow the most fabulous Friday ever!

Wednesday 8th July

We have has another fabulous day watching your video and looking at your work. You are really creative! Your end of school reports will be arriving at your houses very soon and we hope you enjoy reading them as much as we enjoyed writing them.

Tuesday 7th July

Oh the tears are already starting to come! Watching the videos that you are doing for your next teacher reminds us of how much you have achieved this school year. You are all so confident and you are able to express yourself clearly. Mr Lorgat and Miss Potts are going to have such an easy job next year because the Year 2 and Year 3 classes will be amazing.

Monday 6th July

Well Key Stage 1, it's been a fantastic start to our final full week of this academic year. Can you believe it's that time of the year already?! Mr Lorgat has been amazed by the work that the Year 1 children have been producing and Miss Potts is feeling very excited about getting to know the Year 2 children.

Field Lane Space Week Beginning Monday 29th June

This week is 'space week' at Field Lane. There are lots of fun and interesting activities for you to have a go at at and learn about space, constellations, planets and meteorites. It is also International Asteroid Day on 30th June. We can't wait to see photos and videos of your work on Class Dojo. Below you will see the link to this weeks menu if you would like to download it.

KS1 space menu(1)

Friday 3rd July

What a fantastic week Key Stage 1, thank you for continuing to work incredibly hard. You are all shining stars! There has been such a range of activities completed this week, baking, model making, music composition, writing, drawing, painting....the list goes on.

TTRS....... I think this must be a new record score, Year 1 won the tournament with 23,637 points. This was possible because 18 children worked together creating such a huge score. Well done to each and everyone of you. Also, thank you and well done to the Year 2 children who contributed. Next week will be our last battle. Come on Year 2, you need to end KS1 by winning the KS1 TTRS battle. If EVERYONE contributes some points then you will be in with a better chance.

Thursday 2nd July

It's been another busy day today. Lots of you have been busy building rockets and making moon sand. Talhah in Year 1 even created his own stop motion video which you can find below today's work gallery. The planet riddles have really got us thinking today....which planet are they talking about? Some of you guessed the right planet straight away! You really know your planet facts.

Wednesday 1st July

Today has been a very creative day. The space music and videos are incredible! There are some very talented composers in Key Stage 1. We could have done with some of your edible asteroids whilst we were working today, they looked delicious! It's great to see the learning grid come alive each week; the photographs of your creations and videos are out of this world!

Tuesday 30th June

It's been a rocky kind of day weather wise today, and learning wise too because today is International Asteroid Day. We now have lots of asteroid experts! We have been really impressed with the art work and it's been good to see your baking skills coming into action again whilst creating asteroid rocky road biscuits.

Monday 29th June

We have blasted off to a great start this week. It's going to be a week of learning that's out of this world! We'll have a blast and we will be over the moon when we see what you get up to at home.

Who is ready for International Asteroid Day which is happening tomorrow? Has anyone found out what an asteroid is yet? Mrs Hirst is planning on making some edible meteorite, why don't you make some too.

Year 1 have already had half of the class contributing to the TTRS tournament, that's a fantastic way to start the week Year 1, well done.

Field Lane Sports Week Beginning Monday 22nd June

It's one of the favourite weeks of the year at Field Lane. Normally we would be having our annual Sports Day and probably meeting up at Batley Bulldogs. Not to mention the ice lollies and getting soaked by Mr Lorgat! But we can still have a Sports Week and make it just as fun with our family. This will be a new kind of Sports Week! Please see the menu of activities which we hope you will all take part in, have fun and keep fit! Please send us photos and videos of your family sports day to us on Class Dojo. There are also activities for you to do on Purple Mash and you can keep maths fit by playing: TTRockstars and NumBots.

You will notice on the menu that there is information about the Blue Peter Badge challenge. If you would like to take part, click on this link:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/cbbc/joinin/bp-sport-badge-2020?collection=blue-peter-badges

You can load a copy of the menu by clicking on the link below.

KS1 sports week menu

Friday 26th June

What an amazing week of sporting activities. Thank you families for joining in and sharing your photos and videos with us. Miss Walton has got something exciting planned so keep an eye out for that. How many of you got your Blue Peter application posted? If you haven't done this yet, then don't worry as there is still lots of time.

TTRS Tournament

Year 1 were the winners this week with a huge score of 20,332! Well done to all of the children who contributed. It takes a team to win the tournament, not one person. Year 2 you had a score of 6,222 which is still amazing. Next week we would like to see the whole of Year 2 contributing to the score.

Thursday 25th June

It's been another hot day today and it's been lovely to see that you've been out in  your gardens enjoying the sunshine and the sporting activities. Tomorrow is the last day for the family challenge, who is going to be the champion in your house? Who will win the gold, silver and bronze medals? Will you have a medal ceremony?

Wednesday 24th June

Today would have been a great day for a school sports day and it is fantastic to see that lot's of you had the same thought in mind. We have seen lots of obstacle courses, egg and spoon races, target throwing, long jumps, bike riding, skipping and lots more. In true sports day style, we even had medals being awarded!!

Even though most of you have been outside enjoying the lovely weather, you have still managed to complete your maths and phonics work so well done!

Tuesday 23rd June

The sun has definitely had his hat on this afternoon which has been great for our sports activities. We have been really impressed by your long jump efforts and it has been brilliant to see families joining in with the activities. We've already seen some Blue Peter forms which have been completed and are ready to be posted!  Lots of you have been learning to ride your bikes without stabilisers and it's lovely to see that you are choosing this as your new activity for the Blue Peter Sports Badge. Unfortunatly we are too old to apply for a badge, but I think we should join in anyway and learn a new skill. What do you think we should do?

Monday 22nd June

On your mark, get set, go!

It's been a fantastic start to our Field Lane sports week. We've already seen egg and spoon races, water bottle flipping, target practice work and sports medal designs. Mr Lorgat's BitMojo had a busy meeting with Mrs Towers and Mrs Williamson this morning. Mr Lorgat was playing cricket, Mrs Towers was skipping and Mrs Williamson was doing Yoga. I wonder if the picture will make an appearance on here?

More in Common Week Beginning 15th June 2020

Jo Cox once said: We have far more in common than that which divides us. This week we want to celebrate things that we have in common and remember Jo Cox who was our MP. Below you will find the menu of activities for Key Stage 1 children. As you will be aware, over the past few years, the 'Great Get Together' has taken place in Batley. Even though there will be no actual event, you can still take part by visiting this website: https://www.greatgettogether.org/save-the-date-2020/

Please send us photos and videos of your work using Class Dojo so that we can celebrate together!

Friday 19th June

Seeing lots of lovely faces in the Virtual Coffee morning was a lovely way to end what has been a thought provoking week. We have been thinking really hard about the message which Jo Cox worked hard to spread and how we can continue to do her work now that she is no longer with us.

Onto the TTRS tournament...... We are really prouud of both classes this week as there was a record number of participants; 18 for each class. Year 2 got a huge score of 10,370 so well done to everyone who contributed. But the winnders with a score of 16,553 is Year 1.

Thursday 18th June

What a wet, miserable day! It's a good job that we are seeing lots of pictures which are making us smile. It's lovely to see that lots of you are getting ready for the virtual coffee morening which is happening tomorrow. We hope to see lots of you there.

Wednesday 17th June

'More in Common' is a very important message that we need to spread and it's lovely to see that lots of you have been creating it at home. You all have a really good understanding of what it means too, which is great. When we are old and wrinkly, we will need you to continue spreading this message. It's a good job that the shops are selling flour again because there has been lots of baking happening. It's been making our tummies rumble! We will be checking Numbots tomorrow to see if any of you have moved onto the next story. Fingers crossed!

Tuesday 16th June

It is lovely to see that lots of you have been taking advantage of the weather and creating More In Commmon messages outside. All of the messages look really effective and they are spreading such an important message. We've also got lots of busy bakers getting ready for the Great Get Together.

Monday 15th June

It's been a fantastic start to the week and we have loved looking at the work which you have been sending us. We hope that you are enjoying finding out about the incredible message that Jo Cox spread througout out community.

KS1 Summer 2 Week 3 More in Common week

Friendship Week Week Beginning 8th June 2020

We hope you will join us by celebrating Friendship Week in Key Stage 1. We are away from many of our school friends at the moment and we are really missing them. This week is a great time to show our class friends just how much we miss them. Click on the picture below to load this weeks Home Learning the grid. There are lots of fun and interesting activities to do. Please send us photos and videos of your friendship work using Class Dojo. There are also some activities on Purple Mash which you can do.

Friday 12th June

It has been another wonderful week and reading your letters has made us think of the old saying "absence makes the heart grow fonder". We are really missing eachother. The art work which we have seen has been stunning; lots of creative and thoughtful ways to show that even though we may have our differences, these don't matter and we can all be friends. We've seen more bracelets than I think they have in Claire's Accessories.....not that Mr Lorgat goes in Claire's Accessories....

It has been great to see lots of you moving onto the next story on Numbots and you are all doing really well on TTRS. Speaking of Times Table Rock Stars, it's that time of the week where we announce the tournament winners. This week Year 2 got a huge score of 6,359 points but the winners are Year 1 with a staggering score of 18,487. Well done Year 1, almost the whole class contributed to that score. Next week we would like to see more people from Year 2 taking part in the tournament. You never know, Year 2 might be the winners. They've done it before, so they can definitely do it again.

Enjoy your weekend, although it is going to be a soggy one unfortunately. We will be back on Monday,

Mrs Hirst & Mr Lorgat

Thursday 11th June

Well what a cold, windy and wet day. It's a good job we had so many wonderful things to look at; it certainly distracted us from the weather. It has been lovely reading your letters that you have written to your friends. This is something that can continue, it is not just an activity for this week. Receiving letters is a very special thing and because you are getting them through the internet, they are just like emails! There are 21 people in Year 1 who have contributed to the TTRS tournament, no wonder their score is 13,868!

Wednesday 10th June

What a wonderful Wednesday it has been! We have seen more letters, recipies and friendship hand art today. It is good to have friends but it is better to be a good friend and in Key Stage 1 we really know how to do this.

Tuesday 9th June

It has been a great day today. We are seeing lots of wonderful friends related art work which reminds us that no matter what differences we may have, we can all be friends. We are enjoying being postal workers and passing on your lovely letters to your friends. Please keep writing them. You could write to more than one person. If you receive a letter, it would be lovely if you replied.

Monday 8th June

We knew this week would be a good one as there are 60 wonderful friends in Key Stage 1, 64 if you count the teachers. We haven't been disappointed either; today has been a fantastic start to the week. We've also had a great start to the TTRS tournament too. Year 1 are already in the lead with a staggering score of 4569 thanks to Ava Alvin and Jesse Rockson. We will also be keeping a close eye on Numbots this week, let's see if everyone can get to the next level.

Congratulations to these six Rock Stars for their contribution to this week's TTRS tournament.

I wonder who will be in 1st, 2nd and 3rd place next week.

Friday 5th June

Well another week has gone by and we have loved watching your videos, listening to your songs, seeing your work, looking at your scores on TTRS and Numbots, and listening to you read. We are are really proud of you all for working so hard at home. Right it's that time of the week when we announce the TTRS KS1 tournament winner, drum roll please..... Year 2 have a huge score of 11,943 but this weeks winners are Year 1 with a score of 17,093. Well done to everyone who has taken part. We are especially proud of Year 2 this week as 18 of you contributed to your score. Even if you are not confident with your times tables, you can all contribute a little bit. The only way to improve with something is to keep trying. Remember....we don't say I can't do it...we say I can't do it YET!

We hope you all have a wonderful weekend and we will be back on Monday.

Mrs Hirst & Mr Lorgat

If you are still wondering how to stay safe on your bike then watching the video below will really help you.

Are you wanting a bedtime story tonight but you don't want to read it yourself? There's no need to worry, we have the perfect alternative for you below. Snuggle up and enjoy. (You may need to wait a moment for it to load, but it's worth the wait).

Thursday 4th June

Now that we all know how to stay safe in the sun, the weather has changed and it's raining! That doesn't seem fair does it? The rain is important though so we don't mind too much. Hopefully the sun will return soon. We have been really pleased with the work that has been completed today.

Let's turn our attention now to the TTRS tournament. It's close, but Year 1 are currently in the lead with a score of 10,708. Year 2 are close behind with a score of 7,526. Well done to everyone who has contributed to these scores so far, but a special mention goes to Jesse Rockson, Ava Alvin, Fruity Doyle, Mikal Dederer from Year 1 and Flo Steele, Sky Pascal, Winston Pop, Jet Sweet from Year 2, who have all contributed over 1000 points EACH!

Congratulations to Adam in Year 2!

Wednesday 3rd June

Now the roads are getting busier, we need to be careful when we are out and about. Thankfully we have lots of road safety posters to help us to keep safe when we are near to roads. Designing a poster may seem like a simple task but there are quite a few things to think about. It needs to be eye catching, not have too much writing on it, have bold pictures and so on. The posters which we have seen have all been brilliant!

We are so pleased with everyone who is completing the maths and phonics work on a daily basis, it is really going to help you long term. Keep up the good work Key Stage 1!

Tuesday 2nd June 2020

Raees, his brother and family have made an amazing Bike Safety video. Please watch the safety video.

We are really pleased to see that lots of you already have a good awafeness of being safe. The videos about bike safety have been really interesting to watch. Mrs Hirst wishes she could have watched one of them before she cycled around San Francisco with Mr Hirst on a tandem bike a few years ago!

The TTRS tournament is going well. So far there have been twelve Year 1 children and eight Year 2 children who have contributed. Every point counts so the more people getting involved the better. Year 1 are currently in the lead but Year 2 are not far behind.

Monday 1st June 2020

Welcome back Year 1 and Year 2! Hope you all had a fun day today. We have really enjoyed looking at all the work you have been doing. There has been lots of creative work on the theme of 'safety'. See you tomorrow!

Welcome back! We hope you all had a wonderful Eid and enjoyed the half term break. We loved seeing photographs of you celebrating with your families.

This week our theme at Field Lane is: Child Safety Week. Have a look at the presenation below with your child which will help you to understand the importance of safety in and out of the home. As usual there is a Home Learning Menu which can be found below the presentation. We are looking forward to seeing what you get up to this week. Please click on pictures on the grid to be taken to the linked website.

Week beginning 18th May 2020

Last week, the theme was Healthy Body and Healthy Mind. This week we are going to turn our minds to a different them: Share a story! Mr Lorgat and Mrs Hirst have already shared stories with you and now it's your turn! There are so many interesting activities on the Menu below to choose from. There are also activities set on Purple Mash as part of this weeks theme. On Class Dojo, you can send us pictures of your work and more importantly, make a video of yourself reading your favourite story. Why not try and make your own puppet show and video it. We love seeing what you do at home. With Eid coming up, You could make a special Eid message for your class at home. Take a photo of your Eid message and send us a photo and we can post it on Class Dojo so that your friends can see your messages. Bye for now!

Please click on the owl to be taken to the Oxford Owl webpage.

Key Stage 1 Story Time

Please enjoy these stories which have been written and read for you by our amazing children.

Friday 22nd May

Well Key Stage 1, we come to the end of another half term. Even though we haven't all been together, we have still been able to learn virtually together and celebrate some of the wonderful things that have been happening. Year 1 have taken back their winning TTRS crown with an amazing score of 17,254. Well done to everyone who has contributed from Year 1 and 2.

We would like to say a huge thank you to all of our families for continuing to support your children with their home learning. We wish you all a very happy Eid and restful week together. Thank you being you, from Mrs Hirst & Mr Lorgat.

Thursday 21st May

It's getting exciting, Eid is just around the corner! We had an aim, to make our Field Lane families smile by sending each child in school a homemade Eid card, and we succeeded. We don't need thanking; seeing your happy faces and knowing that you were smiling was all we needed.

Many of you have been outside today enjoying the sunshine whilst making dens to read in. We have also enjoyed watching your Puppet Shows. Great work Key Stage 1!

Wednesday 20th May

What a beautiful sunny day it has been today. We hope you have been able to get outside and enjoy yourself. Some of you have been sharing your post with us; it was lovely to see your smiley faces and hear you talking to us in your videos and you are all very welcome.

There have been lots of maths and phonic activities happening today which is good, but it has also been lovely seeing that you are continuing to complete the activities from the learning grid.

Tuesday 19th May

Once upon a time on a warm Tuesday, lots of children in Batley and Dewsbury were busy completing their home learning tasks. Their teachers were both very pleased with them and enjoyed looking at the wonderful photographs which had been sent to them.

Monday 18th May 2020

It's been a fabulous start to the week, thank you to our families for continuing to support and encourage your children with their home learning. It seems we have some budding illustrators amongst us as we have seen some wonderful book cover designs.

Week beginning 11th May 2020

This week our Field Lane theme is: Healthy Body and Healthy Mind. We have come up with lots of fun and interesting activities that you and your children can do at home. Staying healthy physically is extremely important especially during this difficult period. There are activities that your child can do on Purple Mash (2Dos). We will be sending you daily maths and phonics activities on Class Dojo. Please check Class Dojo regularly and try to send photos/videos back to the teacher before 4pm if possible. This gives the teachers time to look at each child's work and give constructive feedback.

Please send us photos and videos of what you do using Class Dojo.

Please click on these images to be taken to the activity.

Germ experiment                              Jokes                            Breathing wand

TTRS champion in the making.

We must give a special to mention to a boy in Year 1 who, I need to add, is still only 5. He has amazed his parents and all of the teachers with his ability of knowing ALL of the times tables. He doesn't just know them, he can answer them in a super speed and his studio speed currently stands at 0.85 seconds. He has a whopping 875,700 lifetime coins!! His parents are so amazed by him that they have contacted the Guinness Book of World Records to see if he has the ability to achieve the highest score on Times Table Rock Stars in one minute. I hope you will join me in wishing him the very best of luck and we will keep you posted with how he gets on.

Watch the video below to be amazed....

Friday 15th May 2020

Well Key Stage 1, you have tired us out! What a busy busy week its been. It's good to see that so many of you have been keeping your minds and bodies healthy, keep it up!

Onto TTRS........until yesterday it looked like Year 1 were going to keep hold of their winning title, but today Year 2 decided that it was their turn to win, and they did, with a staggering score of 18,098. Year 1 weren't far behind them though as their score was 15,272. Wow, these are incredible scores and we are extremely proud of you all, and to the 24 children who won the TTRS tournament for Year 2 this week, well done.

We are looking forward to another brilliant week and it might learning up to something exciting.....hmm we wonder what that could be....!

Thursday 14th May 2020

Another giggletastic day today KS1!! Thank you for entertaining us with your jokes. I think in the future some of you may become comedians or even haematology doctors. We have never seen so much red stuff in our lives, we were struggling to decide what was a smoothie and what was the blood experiment after a while! We have found it fascinating reading your blood information sheets. Mr Lorgat can't wait until Iftar because he is desperate to make himself a smoothie. Year 2 have been making him fell hungry all day by sending photographs of their delicious smoothies. Luckily they have also sent the recipie. Year 1 lovely and relaxed thanks to their breathing wands, but we hope they are not too relaxed as there is one more learning day left this week. Looking forward to tomorrow already.

Wednesday 13th May 2020

Mr Hirst saw some of your photographs today and he wondered why lots of you were eating red cereal for your dinner....Mrs Hirst had to explain that it was blood! It's been great to see lots of blood and germs today; but it does sound strange saying that! Both classes are doing really well with completing a phonics lesson, a maths lesson and an activity from the grid each day which is amazing. Remember your brain is like a muscle, if you don't use it every day then it will get weak. We want you all to have really strong brains which are filled with lots of information to help you with your work.

We are half way through the week now and Year 1 are leading again in the TTRS tournament. Well done to the eleven Year 1 children and the eight Year 2 children who have contributed to the tournament so far. Year 1 haven't won it yet though, there is still time for Year 2 to beat them!

Tuesday 12th May 2020

Happy birthday Florence Nightingale! Through our fantastic research we have discovered that today would have been Florence Nightingale's birthday and that is why today is known as International Nurses Day.

We've laughed at your jokes, got out of breath trying to join in with your Joe Wicks style exercise videos and been reminded to always use soap when we wash our hands. It's been another super day.

Home learning Online Reading Scheme

To support our children in reading at home, you can now use the Oxford Owl e-books for free. This means you can access reading scheme books like the ones we use in school. This is especially for children in Reception to Lower Key Stage 2, but older children could try it too.

We are encouraging our parents can sign up, all you have to do is follow this link to register and follow a few simple steps.

Put in your name, email, set a password and the age of a child and you're ready to go. You'll then have access to a huge library of e-books which your child can read online.

To find out what level you need for your child(ren), look on the back cover of the Oxford Reading Tree book in their book bag and then select this level.

If you don't have this information, you can alternatively select their year group or age for a close match.

We encourage all of our children to read a book for at least 10 minutes every day.

--------

Monday 11th May 2020

Thank you for giving us a fabulous start to the week by sharing your home learning activities with us. It has been lovely to see lots of science activities taking place. Our mouths have been watering from looking at lots of delicious smoothies and it's been good to read the instructions on how to make them too. Now we can have a go at making them ourselves! Well done Key Stage 1.

Week beginning 4th May 2020

Good morning, it's the start of another week of home learning fun. This week we are focusing on 'heroes'. What makes someone a hero? Who is your hero? Heroes are not just superheroes like Spiderman or Superman, they can be real people too. Maybe your hero is a footballer or a swimmer, maybe your hero is someone in your family. Whoever your hero is, they are someone special to you.

Please choose an activity from the grid below to complete each day, you do not have to complete all of them. Also, we will be sending a daily maths activity through ClassDojo which we would like you to complete. We will be using the White Rose maths activities. We understand that not all of you have access to a printer so if this is the case then write your answers on a sheet of paper and photograph that. There is also a daily phonics lesson which we would like you to complete.

Please click on the link to be taken to the YouTube video of it being read aloud.

Thursday 7th May

What a day! Well done to the Year 1 parents for showing perseverance and patience whilst Mrs Hirst tried to get you all set up with using your child's Portfolio on ClassDojo to submit work.

We are very impressed with how many of you have completed the White Rose maths work EVERY day and also the phonics work EVERY day. You are super home learners. We have loved reading your stories on Purple Mash and we will choose a couple to read and put onto the website.

Year 1 won the TTRS tournament again this week. Well done to Jesse Rockson, Fruity Doyle, Spider Gates, Mikal Dederer, Ava Alvin and Jess Edwardson who all contributed over 500 points for their class!

We hope you've all got your bunting out ready to celebrate 75 years since VE Day tomorrow.

Wednesday 6th May

Another great day Key Stage 1. If you keep up with your maths, phonics and writing like you have been doing then you will find it much easier when we are back in our classrooms. Thank you families for continuing to support your children. It's not just the children who are learning, the teachers are learning too. Mr Lorgat has been teaching Mrs Hirst how to make this page look even better by putting the photos of your work onto a Google slide! What do you think? We think it looks great!

Tuesday 5th May

The highlight of Mrs Hirst's day was phoning everyone and being able to talk to you all again. Mrs Hirst is getting better at not talking too much as it only took her six hours instead of the nine hours it took last time. It was a wonderful six hours though.

It is lovely to see that the activities from the learning grid are being completed as well as the maths and phonics activities. We are finding out that to be a hero you need to be brave, kind, caring and strong. There are also some wonderful superheroes being created on Purple Mash. Well done Key Stage 1 for another wonderful day of home learning! Keep up the good work!

Monday 4th May 2020

Wow Key Stage 1 you have certainly kept us on our toes today. Work has been coming in at the speed of a super fast superhero! There were nineteen children in year 1 who completed the White Rose maths activity today, that's an incredible amount! Mrs Hirst has now started to award Dojo Points for each piece of completed work, and for when you go on Purple Mash, Numbots and Times Table Rock Stars. Some of you have four Dojo Points already! It's also really good to see that lots of you have been doing a phonics lesson today, and we have really enjoyed listening to you read in your FlipGrid and Class Dojo videos. Thank you.

A brilliant effort from Year 2 with their maths and phonics work. A fantatsic superhero NHS logo by one of the Year 2 students.

Week beginning 27th April 2020

This week we are focusing on 'kindness and gratitude'. You might want to start the week by finding out what these words mean. By Friday we expect you to have completed most of or all of the activities on the grid so you will need to try and do one every day. Don't forget to send us a photograph each day so we can see the incredible work that you have been doing.

Did you all enjoy the school assembly video? We hope so. We are looking forward to celebrating some more amazing home learners next week.

The results of the Year 1 vs Year 2 TTRStars tournament for this week are..... Year 1 had 15,568 points and Year 2 had 6115 points. Come on Year 2, next week it's got to be your turn to win but well done to Year 1 for winning this week.

There has been lots of wonderful work and activities being completed and shared with us today. The only way we know what you're doing is if you share it with us so thank you to those of you who have already been doing this. We hope you have a lovely weekend and we will be back on Monday raring to go!

Mrs Hirst and Mr Lorgat

Thursday 30th April 2020

Happy birthday Captain Tom Moore who is 100 years old today! The Queen gave him a very important title for his birthday so he is now Hororary Colonel Tom Moore.

The teachers had a meeting this afternoon, but you will have to wait until tomorrow to find out why.....

Lots of you have been busy again making sure you are keeping up with your learning. We have been amazed at how many of you are completing the activities on Purple Mash and it has been lovely to see photographs of the activities which you are doing at home. The toothpaste experiment has shown lots of you that once you have said something, you can't get it back, so it's best to think carefully before we speak.

We hope you remember to clap for the key workers at 8 p.m. tonight and also for Colonel Tom Moore. Remember to send us your photographs or a video if you want to.

Wednesday 29th April 2020

The weather might be dull outside but Key Stage 1 are cheering us up with all their creative work! Thank you!

Tuesday 28th April 2020

It's been another busy day with lots of work being shared with us, thank you. Well done to the twelve children in Year 2 who have been contributing to the Year 1 vs Year 2 tournament on Times Table Rock Stars, maybe Year 2 will win this week....

Lots of you are demosntrating your kindness and being grateful for the kindness of others which is exactly what we want to see. We can't wait to read everything that's in those kindness buckets.

Year 2 have been busy writing their own diaries on Purple Mash. The diaries are brilliant!

Monday 27th April 2020

It's been a great start to the week with lots of decorations being made, kindness buckets ready to be filled, Iftar food being prepared, BBC lessons being completed and lots more. It's also great that more of you are using the activities on Purple Mash too. Here are a few of the things which have been shared with us today.

Week beginning 20th April 2020

For our first week back we would like you to focus on the things that are going on in the world right now. There are lots of incredible stories about people helping one another, animals returning to places they haven't been to for years, pollution levels decreasing and lots more. The grid below shows you the activities which we would like you to have a go at. Please also continue to use the activities in the Year 1 & 2 home learning tab.

Click on the Time Capsule to have a go at completing some pages to include in  your own Time Capsule. You could also include the letter from the Prime Minister, Boris Johnson.

Do you know which family this is? Well done for following the rules and staying inside! Photograph inspired by JJ Waller.

Saturday 25th April

Inspired by Mrs Hirst and her storytelling, Mr Lorgat decided to be brave and make a video! Hope you enjoy the story, Ginger the Giraffe. There are so many messages in this story about being helpful, unselfish and considerate. Remember to try and use these qualities at home with your families.

Please be patient as the video will take a little while to load! It's worth the wait!

Friday 24th April

Another week is coming to an end and a very special time is beginning; it is Ramadan. Mrs Hirst doesn't do Ramadan and was keen to find out more about it so the children in Year 1 created videos explaining what happens. They were really informative and would be perfect for Newsround! Some of you have completed the home learning grid this week which is amazing. Some of you have sent pictures to Mrs Hirst for the Batley Library online gallery which she will forward to them.

Now it's time for the Times Table Rocks Stars tournament results......drum roll please.......

Year 2 got 11468 points but Year 1 were flying out in front with a staggering 32115 points! Well done to everyone who took part in both Year 1 and Year 2.

Thank you for keeping up with your learning and we are looking forward to what next week brings.

Mrs Hirst & Mr Lorgat

Thursday 23rd April

We have had another good day. Mr Lorgat has particularly enjoyed today as he has been speaking to the Year 2 parents and the children. Some of the children were really confident, others were shy and some children giggled!

We have had lots of work sent in today. We have watched videos of you being news reporters, seen your wonderful garden art, looked at your art work creations of your family standing at the window, and much more. One family even had a kareoke after taking part in the music lesson on BBC Bitesize!

Here are just a few examples:

Wednesday 22nd April

Year 2 have been doing some measuring today. Thank you to everyone who sent in pictures of their work. We even had one student make a 'Thank You' artwork in the garden. This made my day! I hope you are all doing the 2Dos on Purple Mash and keeping up with TTRockstars and Numbots. I can see that half of the Year 1's have been playing Numbots. Well done! Thank you for sending pictures of the work that you are ding at home. We really love looking at all your creative work. You are all AMAZING!

Well done Year 1,your work is fantastic!

Tuesday 21st April

It's been a busy day. Did any of you get a phone call today? If you didn't then stand by your phones, a phone call will be coming your way very soon.

There has been lots of on-line activity and we are really pleased that so many of you have moved up a level on Numbots. Keep it up!

Monday 20th April

We have had a good first day back with lots of you going on Purple Mash, Numbots and Times Table Rock Stars. There is a tournament on the go between Year 1 and Year 2 on TTRS and Year 1 are currently in the lead with 3304 points!

Below is a sample of some of the amazing things that have been done today. We would like to see more of the work that you are doing at home so please take photographs and send them via ClassDojo.

Easter Holidays Home Learning Menu

Unfortunately we are not together as another term finishes, but we have been really pleased to see the incredible work which you have been doing at home with your families. Below is a home learning menu which is to be done over the two weeks of the Easter holiday. Please send your photographs and videos to either Mrs Hirst or Mr Lorgat via ClassDojo. You can also use FlipGrid to share your videos; it would be lovely to see some more reading. The most important thing is that you have fun working on these activities with your family, and make sure you do lots of playing and relaxing.

We are looking forward to seeing what you have been up to after the holiday.

Stay at home and stay safe,

Mrs Hirst & Mr Lorgat

Week Beginning 30th March 2020 Home Learning Menu

Good morning, it's a chilly start to the week but it looks like the sun is trying to peek through the clouds.

Instead of giving you tasks to do each day we are giving you a learning menu for the week. Now that you have had a week of home learning, you may have an idea of what works best for your family. There are lots of other activities which you can choose to do on the home learning section. These activities are not a 'must-do' list, but rather a list of activities which you can pick and choose from. We will continue to showcase your fabulous work on this page once you have sent it to us.

Key Stage 1 Blog Friday 27th March 2020

Good morning everyone! It's a cloudy start to Friday so far but according the the forecast, the sun should be out this afternoon.

For the writing task today we would like you to come up with a set of family rules. We would like you to present these in a poster style so make it as colourful as you can. They should then be displayed somewhere in your house for everyone to see. Ideally you should all work on this as a family so you all share your ideas. If you google 'family rules' you will find lots of examples, they don't need to be strict ones, but they should be helpful, for example, 'Put your plate next to the sink when  you have finished eating', 'Fold your bedtiime clothes and put them under your pillow when you have taken  them off'. Please send your 'family rules' via ClassDojo; we can't wait to see what you come up with. We might even be borrowing some of your ideas for our own homes!

Story time: Watch Mrs Hirst reading Pirates. The video may take a little while to load but it's worth waiting for!

Reading: Thank you to those of you who have been sending in your Flipgrid videos. Flipgrid is a great way to record yourself reading and have fun at the same time. Please send us your videos. You must read to an adult everyday and fill in your Reading Record

Maths: Yesterday Year 1 and 2 students were set the challenge to complete a Time Quiz. Well done to those who did the quiz. There were about 10 students from each class that had a go. Let's have more today! Yesterday, we made two videos to help you tell the time. Watch these videos again and then complete a different time quiz. Year 1 will be sent the quiz by Mrs Hirst and Year 2 will get their quiz details from Mr Lorgat. You will get the link on Class Dojo.

At home, draw your own clocks and write the times. Year 1 must be able to read o'clock and half past times. As a challenge you may want to look at quarter to and quarter past. Year 2 have to be able to read the time on clocks in 5 minute intervals eg, ten past, twenty five past, ten to, twenty to. Take some photos of your time work or make a video and send it to us on Class Dojo.

TT Rockstars: Year 2 were the Times Table Battle winners yesterday! In Year 1, Fruity Doyle was the winner! In Year 2, Blaire Owens was the winner! A new Battle has started again. The battle will end on Sunday at 7pm. Who will be the Champions this time?

Rainbow pictures

Year 1 have continued creating their rainbow pictures of hope. We were pleased to hear that lots of you joined in with the Clap for Carers last night at 8 p.m.

It's been another busy day and the sun finally came out!

The day started as usual with P.E. with Joe Wicks. Then we started our writing task which was to  create a House Rules poster. We have been continuing with our work on time and Year 1 were using pairs of socks to help with their counting in 2s, Mrs Hirst really enjoyed watching the videos.

Have a lovely weekend and we will be back on Monday. Stay at home and stay safe.

Key Stage 1 Blog Thursday 26th March 2020

Good morning Year 1 and Year 2! It's forecast to be a full day of sunshine and the sun has definitely got his hat on in Batley this morning.

The writing task today involves words and sentences. We have found some words which we would like you to find the meaning of and then put into a sentence. There are 'Grasshopper' words which means easier words, and for those of you who are wanting a challenge, there are 'Shinobi' words which are harder.

                                                                                 Grasshopper words                         Shinobi words

                                                                                              trail                                                   foe

                                                                                           scavenge                                         adversary

                                                                                              scrape                                             bluff

                                                                                              delay                                                deft

                                                                                               joy                                                 diminish

You can choose one word, a few words or all of the words. Once you have chosen a word, find out what it means and have a go at putting it into a sentence. Write the sentence down and send either Mr Lorgat or Mrs Hirst a photograph via ClassDojo. We will share some of the sentences which we receive here later on.

Then you can visit the following link and see some examples of the words being used in sentences. You can also use morphology to change the word using prefix's and suffix's.

Remember that a prefix is added to the beginning of a word and changes the word meaning: un, pre, mis, dis, bi, over, re.

A suffix is added to the end of a word and also changes the meaning of the word: ing, ed, er, est

Time Quiz: You have been sent a link to a quiz on Class Dojo for your child to have a go at. It will help them improve their time telling skills.

Storytime with Mrs Hirst

We have had a great day which started with P.E. with Joe Wicks. Then it was time for writing and we were amazed with the sentences which were sent to us. Lots of you are now telling the time thanks to Mr Lorgat's brilliant explanations, and some of you have been sending photographs of your homemade clocks. Well done! We have even had a photograph of some amazing outdoor artwork sent to us. Have look and see if you can have a go. You are still busily sorting objects according to the materials which they are made from and creating 'rainbow hope' pictures for your windows. We are proud of you all!

Looking forward to tomorrow,

Mrs Hirst & Mr Lorgat

Then we looked at a news article on the BBC News page about rainbow pictures that were being created by children all over the country. The pictures were being placed in windows to spread joy, hope and happiness during this difficult time. The children then started to create their own pictures. Batley is now filled with hope and happiness thanks to our colourful windows!

Then it was time for Phonics thanks to Mr Mc on YouTube; we were focusing on the sound /ar/.

The day finished with the story 'Millicent and Meer' by Richard Byrne.
