On Wednesday 27th April, Sally Cooper and Aneesa Rawat were invited to attend a reception dinner at the Houses of Parliament, hosted by The Naz legacy Foundation. Both teachers, from Field Lane J, I & N School, were honoured to be invited to such a prestigious and unique event. They were introduced to and spoke with the Secretary of State for Education, Nicky Morgan and the Shadow Secretary of State for Education, Lucy Powel.

The invitation was a culmination of their hard work undertaken with the Year 6 children at Field Lane J, I & N School and the charity Mosaic. This involved a ten week programme where the children had the opportunity to meet and work with various inspirational people from all walks of life.  The highlight of the programme was a visit to Leeds Trinity University, where 20 parents watched their children graduate and were then given a tour of the university.

Aneesa Rawat, the Year 6 teacher, said, ‘Mosaic was a fantastic programme that really allowed the children to open their eyes to all the different career paths that they could take in the future.’

Sally Cooper, teacher and parent liaison lead, said, “Having the opportunity to visit the Houses of Parliament was incredible and will hopefully inspire children at Field Lane to aim high and achieve their dreams.”

Both teachers agreed that the opportunity to represent Field Lane J, I & N School and Kirklees at the House of Parliament was a real honour and showed that an innovative approach to education, is worthwhile.
