Schools Direct 2017/18

Join one of our local schools where you’ll benefit from a comprehensive training package that will ensure you have the skills to be a highly successful teacher and potential leader of tomorrow.  We are now open for September 2017 and have a number of places available within our Batley and Birstall Partnership Schools (BBEST).

As a partnership of schools, we are highly committed to supporting Initial Teacher Training and our School Direct programme is tailored to meet the needs most relevant to trainee teachers.

Field Lane is the lead school for a group of 17 Primary Schools within the BBEST partnership.  The Partnership covers the Batley and Birstall area.  We offer training from all our schools with trained mentors and are linked with The Kirklees and Calderdale SCITT who are our providers of training. We are linked to Huddersfield University and all successful candidates will be offered the opportunity to choose the QTS route or a PGCE from the University. You will usually spend four days per week in your host school and one day per week will be provided at a range of venues across Kirklees on a comprehensive training course devised by Lead Professionals and agreed with the University.  Their website address is: www.kc-scitt.org.uk/

The SCITT Programme is a rigorous and practical route leading to the award of QTS. The programme supports trainees to develop a wide range of teaching skills, to reflect on their practice, and to demonstrate from the evidence of their school and other training experiences that they meet the requirements of the professional standards for teaching.  Period of training is usually for one year commencing September.

  • Smart Time and the creative curriculum
  • Growth mindset
  • Parental engagement
  • Advice from a former 'outstanding' trainee
